Plugins and tools for musicians

Stock doesn't knock.

AFTERMARKET makes premium plugins and tools for musicians, built the way an install shop builds a car system: one part at a time, each with one job. The first part is TRUNK, for 808s and kicks.

Why TRUNK exists

Follow one 808 from the sub to a phone speaker.

  1. Your 808 disappears on a phone

Phone speakers barely reproduce the lowest notes. The sub sits far under what they can play, so it goes dark.

  2. TRUNK builds harmonics from the bass

They rise above the cutoff and follow the note, so the phone has something to play.

  3. FOCUS moves them

Pick where the harmonics land, to suit the track.

LOW 140–500 Hz MID 370 Hz–1.7 kHz HIGH 1–6 kHz

Part AM-101Flagship

TRUNK

Phone speakers can't play a 50 Hz sub. TRUNK adds harmonics derived from the bass, up where a phone can play them. One big dial sets how much.

Install notes

  • Goes on an 808 or kick channel, as an effect.
  • VST3 on Mac. More formats planned.
  • A/B with BYPASS in the plugin window, with MATCH on.
  • Turn PHONE off before you export.

The same window in PHONE view: the sub bars have gone dark and a blue ring glows around the dust cap.

PUNCH
How much harmonics you add from the bass, with extra push on the attack.
FOCUS
Where they land. LOW about 140–500 Hz, MID about 370 Hz–1.7 kHz, HIGH about 1–6 kHz.
MONO SUB
Everything below this point is mono. Set it from 40 to 200 Hz.
SOFT CLIP
Rounds off the peaks. At 100% it also gets louder.
OUTPUT
Output level, −24 to +6 dB.
MATCH
Levels it to your original, so you compare the sound and leave volume out of it.
FULL / PHONE
Normal sound, or monitor through a rough phone simulation.
BYPASS
Back to your original sound, with no click.

Built for

  • 808s built for phone speakers

PUNCH adds harmonics from the bass, up where small speakers can play them.

    PUNCH
  • Kicks with more knock

PUNCH also pushes the attack, so the hit comes forward.

    PUNCH
  • Dark or bright tracks

FOCUS puts the harmonics low, mid or high, wherever the beat leaves room.

    FOCUS
  • Tight low end

MONO SUB makes everything below your chosen point mono, from 40 to 200 Hz.

    MONO SUB
  • Loudness

SOFT CLIP rounds off the peaks. At 100% it also gets louder.

    SOFT CLIP
  • Honest comparison

MATCH levels TRUNK to your original. BYPASS flips back with no click. Volume can't decide for you.

    MATCH, BYPASS

Flip BYPASS. Flip PHONE. The same four hits loop in sync, so a switch changes the sound and nothing else. On a phone right now? Stay on FULL and flip BYPASS, and your own speaker does the rest. On an iPhone, take it off silent.

The catalogue

Each part is named for a place sound bounces around, in or near a car. In the part number, the hundreds say the job: AM-100s low end, 200s delay, 300s reverb.

AM-___

The community. Planned, not open yet

The Shop will be where the next parts get built.

AFTERMARKET is building a community around the plugins, for producers and rappers. The Shop will work like this.

  • Early access

Members will get new parts first, while there is still time to change them.

  • Feedback that shapes the plugins

You will tell us what breaks and what is missing, and it will go into the next build.

  • Beat flips

We will run flips where everyone works from the same sound, and the shop will listen together.

Pop the trunk. Play the 808.

The early access list opens soon. Until then, the demo is open to everyone.
